Just about everybody had a treasured stuffed toy when they were young. The feeling of happiness and nostalgia of these toys is what makes some adults become collectors of them, namely stuffed animals from Steiff.

The original animals can demand high prices at auctions and fairs these days, particularly the bears.

The Steiff stuffed animals history begins in the town of Giengen an der Brenz in Germany, around 1880.

A wheelchair bound seamstress called Margarete Steiff started a hobby and made toy animals from her own designs.

She created mostly cats, pigs, elephants and dogs.

The Steiff stuffed animals that we know of today began when Richard Steiff, a nephew of Margarette, created the first toy bear with jointed limbs in 1902.

The bear quickly became popular in the United States and then, across the world, winning the first prize at the World Exhibition in St.Louis in 1904.

It became known as a teddy bear, as in honor of President Teddy Roosevelt.

With their stuffed animals still produced today in the town of Giengen, the Steiff company is known for their high quality animals.

Giengen is a mecca for admirers of the products as there is an Adventure Museum as well as the factory.

The museum tells the history of the products and a gift shop sells bears, replicas of past animal products, historic catalogues and porcelain.

The Steiff Classic range is the line that is most sought after by collectors, featuring a wide variety of animals that are all hand made.

Several of the designs are said to date back to the early 1900′s.

You can even see the special Valentine Bear, with a stitched on heart. It is a wonderful and romantic gift idea.

Steiff creations include a wide range of popular characters such as Peter Rabbit, Mrs. Tiggy Winkle hedgehog and characters from Beatrix Potter.

One of the most popular designs for kids is the Paddington Bear, wearing his trademark blue hat and red duffel coat.

With babies and toddlers in mind, Steiff created the baby animals collection.

They are made from durable materials and include teddy bears, kittens and lambs.

The Cosy Animal line has machine washable animals and there are also children’s clothes, keyrings, bags and gift sets.

The Limited Edition Steiff stuffed animals contain pink and gray replica versions of the 1908 teddy bear.

You can also find a Moon Bear, a Grizzly Bear and a cute Pierrot Bear in the selection.

This range also has a stuffed Rupert Bear, another favorite character from story books.

However, the teddy bear will continue to be the toy that is most associated with the Steiff Company.

Online baby sitter services are becoming quite popular. Instead of heading off to an actual agency office, parents are beginning to prefer looking for sitters online. This is only logical really. After all, if you can find a spouse online, then you can also find a good sitter online.

Advantages

It is important to remember that there are many online sitter services. Just like everything else, no two services are exactly alike. Some may have more features and services than others. They may however, have some common advantages.

- The best advantage of an online service is convenience. Your legs no longer have to do the walking. By clicking a mouse and punching a few keys, you can already find numerous individuals to consider. Sitter sites also typically organize sitters according to location and some by experience. This will make your search easier.

- Depending on the site, they may offer a couple of useful services. A good online baby sitter service will conduct background investigations on their sitters. This may include looking into possible criminal records. This will at least provide you with some assurance that a sitter’s record is clean.

- Some sites would encourage the active participation of parents in search of the right sitter. They don’t just provide you with names, resumes and records. You will also be allowed to personally communicate with potential sitters. This will be a great opportunity to ask relevant questions, personally assess a sitter and establish rapport. On the side of the sitter, this will also give her a chance to see for herself if you are someone she would want to work for.

- Baby sitting sites offer you important information. These aren’t just for the baby sitters. Parents too can benefit from site information. You can get tips on what to ask a sitter during an interview and how to spot the right baby sitter.

What to Consider in a Site

There are many aspects to consider. When you are in a site, take the time to look over their offered services. You would want to be in a site that is not just a mere meeting site for sitters and parents. You should be in a site that comes with important services such as background investigations. This is only right because you will be paying for membership fees.

Various sites can have various plans and payment schemes. Online sites charge cheaper than agencies. Various sites however may have varying fee rates and plans. Some will offer you their services for a limited fee for a few months or for a year. Others have various fee plans with a full plan allowing you full access to their services. Make sure that you are comfortable with their payment scheme.

Terms and conditions matter a lot. Read all the fine print in sight including possible disclaimers. Find out too if they have any policies regarding sitter replacements.

Baby sitter services are truly great options to find a sitter. The key is to find the most convenient, affordable and efficient site for your needs.

Discover the best baby sitter services for less. Discover the best baby sitter agency.

Minnesota Summer Camp in the North woods is more than the pristine beauty of lakes, forests and eagles flying overhead. To me, Summer Camp is another home with another family. But camp isn’t just any family or any home, Swift Nature Camp is a special home.

Why is it so much more? It is filled with encouragement, love, acceptance, and real friends that will be part of your camp memories for life. Your counselors are great people to look up to they act as parents, older siblings and more. You may even end up looking at them as siblings. Your Uniqueness is celebrated and Acceptance is everywhere. This is what makes Swift Nature Camp place that i can not wait to return to each summer.

Activities are everywhere at summer camp, there is so much to do. Here are just a few: Archery, Swimming, Fishing, Boating, Tubing, and Riflery. You are never bored and active all day long. The counselors help you get better regardless of that your skill level is. All activities are noncompetitive and so we all support each other, rather than worry who is best.

When I think of Swift, I think of trips. I’ll never forget the Superior Hiking Trail or going to Ely. What an adventure! I loved the trails, nature, and sights of the forest. It was fun getting to know the other persons that hike with you. The wildlife you see is extremely cool. We saw hawks, bald eagles, deer, ospreys, trout, and carp. This is why I love Overnight Summer Camp in Minnesota.

Life in a cabin is about learning from others and with others. It is becoming a team of understanding. Sure, sometimes we had our fights or minor issues, but almost always they were resolved and we grew closer as a team for them.

The Camp Zoo is a great place to learn about Nature and the Environment. This is nothing like school. It is all done hands on and fun. There are all kinds of animals, you can even bring your own. I think of this as an Animal Camp first with all sorts of other things to do.

Returning to Swift Nature Camp is like coming home. Maybe that’s why I love it so. It ‘s the people, the nature and the independence that make it so special. So, I will see you next summer at this Minnesota Summer Camp.

Babysitter checklists are a simply way to search for a good babysitter so that your precious ones are safe while you are away. Checklists take away the headache of having to manually find a good candidate for your kids by cutting the time and effort you have to do all the critical evaluations. Not only will the potential babysitter need a checklist of what he or she should go by, but you will also need your own checklist to check on the qualifications and professionalism of all potential candidates.

Your Checklist

A lot of parents need babysitters for their kids. The problem is, most of these parents are too busy and therefore do not know where to begin looking. First, you need to be sure whether you want a teen or adult babysitter. Several parents will not hire anyone below the age of 16, but that is particularly essential if an infant is one of the children the sitter will be caring for. Note that some states have laws pertaining to the minimum age for babysitters to be left alone with kids.

Next, consider if you will be taking your kids to the babysitters home or if you want a sitter to stay at your home to watch over them. Kids usually prefer an environment in which they are used to, so if plausible, find a sitter who has ample time and comfortable with watching over your kids in your own household.

Interview potential babysitters and as much as possible, have your babysitter checklist with you. While searching for a babysitter online is one of the best ways to find good candidates, do not skip the basics. Its your children that are involved, so make it a point to interview your top potential candidates in person. Ask questions like, what would you do if an emergency comes up? and how long have you been babysitting?

Referrals are very important especially since you are entrusting your kids to people whom you have just met. Inquire reputable organizations and other referrals for individuals who have completed their babysitting course in your area. It is important that a babysitter at least has had some experience and/or proper training on their field.

Checklist For Your Babysitter

Once you have chosen a person for your childcare requirements, it is essential to assure that you offer a comprehensive checklist for your babysitter. First, make sure you provide your full name, contact number/s and address as well as the full name and birth date of your child. Make sure you include all emergency contact numbers that the babysitter can easily reach if ever anything happens.

If your child is following a specific routine or a special requirement, it is important to include this in the checklist and brief the babysitter about it. For instance, let him or her know about the time your child should go to bed, allowed foods and beverages, medication, allergies and other pertinent information. Similarly, you should let the babysitter know where the first aid kit is located in your home. Its also better to write down 911 on a note near the telephone or on the checklist you are going to give to your babysitter, as it could be difficult to remember even this number when an emergency arises.

As a general rule, it is advisable to give a comprehensive list of any rules you may have for the babysitter and/or your child. Make sure the babysitter is comfortable with these rules, ask as many questions as you can and allow him or her to ask you questions if anything needs to be clarified.

Giving flowers as a symbol of love or friendship is a Valentine's Day custom that dates back many centuries. Roses (among other types of flowers) are a traditional holiday favorite.

Giving flowers as a symbol of love or friendship is a Valentine’s Day custom that dates back many centuries. Roses (among other types of flowers) are a traditional holiday favorite.

This art activity encourages children to craft hand made tissue paper flowers that can then be collaged onto a heart shaped symbol. This activity provides parents with an excellent opportunity to teach children about concepts such as the Valentine’s Day holiday, shapes, colors, and textures. Very young children may not know what words such as texture mean. Make sure to explain any new vocabulary that is used. After all of the needed materials have been gathered (and a suitable, washable workspace has been prepared) begin the craft activity.

Valentine’s Day is a time to express love and kindness. In the spirit of the holiday, make this project an activity to do together as a family. Parents can help children to gather these simple art materials. Choose holiday colors such as red, pink, purple, or white or try a rainbow of vibrant hues.

Surprise the children in the family with Valentine’s Day gifts and treats that are fun and encourage family time. Pass over the stuffed animals for board games, movie tickets and books. Or, give a child a traditional Valentine gift of candy and flowers.

When you’re choosing candy for your youngster, be sure to seek out online sites and stores that sell natural candies. You won’t want your child to have lots of sugar and preservatives and artificial colors. Besides, those with natural ingredients often taste better.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day by spending time with loved ones. There is no better way to do this than a family game night. Give the children a new board game and plan to have a Valentine’s Day family game night. To further emphasize the spirit of love and cooperation, look for cooperative board games that have the whole family working as a team to win the game together.

Flowers are a conventional Valentine’s present for females, but kids like them too. Boys and girls both would feel like they’re special if they obtain a tiny bouquet of flowers that don’t cost much. Great kids’ flowers are those with a long lasting tendency that don’t require a lot of care. Seek chrysanthemums, daisies, and carnations.

Girls who are older might like romantic books for a holiday present. Yet, younger kids would enjoy stories with Valentine’s themes which feature their favorite characters. Similar to games, books assist in giving you more family time and may be a portion of a nighttime Valentine’s theme tale.

A family night out at the movies makes a special Valentine’s Day treat. A night at the movies can be a special one-on-one outing for a parent with an older child. Or, take the whole family along for a Valentine dinner, followed by a night at a special movie. Look for Valentine’s Day gifts for children that have meaning. Gifts that promote family time, like board games, tickets to a movie and books show children that they are loved and cared for on Valentine’s Day. Or, stick with a traditional Valentine gift of candy and flowers

Even the most hopeless man can find the proper Flowers and Gifts for Valentine’s Day with the right advice.

Due to budget constraints, many schools have been forced to cut back on sports and arts programs, yet these are an important part of healthy child development. You can restore these important subjects to your child’s curriculum by incorporating them into their after school activities. Leagues and private instructors can cost a fortune, but you can come up with your own educational pursuits right at home for just a fraction of the cost. In this article, we’ll show you some great do-it-yourself projects that are so much fun that the kids won’t even know they’re learning a new skill.

Child obesity has reached epidemic proportions. After a day of creative activities and seat work at school, many kids simply go home and plop down in front of the television or computer. To get them up from their shows and video games, challenge kids with physical after school activities that are fun, like relay races, backyard t-ball games and even skateboarding.

Kick the Can is a classic game that gets kids moving while they have fun. Since so many schools are being forced to cut back on sports programs, it’s especially important that parents reinforce the importance of physical fitness. To play Kick The Can, you’ll need at least three players and a large, empty tin can like a spaghetti sauce can. Have all the players stand in line and choose one person to be “it.” Another player kicks the can as far as possible. While “it” retrieves the can, everyone else hides. “It” lays the can on the starting line and hunts for other players. Players may change hiding places at any time. When “it” finds a player, he or she calls out the name and location of the player and that person then becomes “it”. There are many variations of this game, so feel free to get creative with this and other after school activities.

Kids usually have the munchies when they get home from school, so teach them to eat healthy by getting them busy in the kitchen. Nachos are a fun-to-make, kid-friendly snack; you can even make them for dinner! Brown some ground beef, drain the fat, and add some mild taco sauce or salsa. For a vegetarian version, substitute black beans for the ground beef. On a pizza pan, layer some baked, whole grain tortilla chips with the meat and some grated cheese. Put it in the oven until the cheese melts. Serve the nachos with some low fat sour cream, chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, re-fried beans and diced red or green peppers. Preparing this simple, yummy snack will teach kids the importance of incorporating the four food groups into their diet, show them how to follow a recipe, and introduce them to measurements. As a bonus, the kids will be eating a serving of fresh veggies without even knowing it!

After school activities don’t have to be expensive. With a little creativity, you can create your own programs at home. Speak to your kids about things that interest them and incorporate those activities into their schedule. If you’re not at home to supervise these activities yourself, ask a friend, neighbor or older child to take over.

Sometimes as children grow into adults’ moms feel like they have lost their place. You can show her that she is still one of the most important women in your life, by showing her how much you care. This birthday or Mother’s day you can add a special touch by gifting one of a variety of mothers rings. This lets her know that no matter how grown you get, you still appreciate all of her efforts.

You can choose from a number of jewelers available on the market for this type of ring. You have a choice between white gold, yellow gold, silver or platinum to use as your base ring. This type of ring is focused on the number of kids the mom has had and representing them on the ring by each individual birthstone.

Knowing a little about the mom’s preference is helpful and will make your shopping easier. So, will it be white or yellow gold? Platinum or silver? You will be faced with these types of questions and knowing the answer will just make this experience easier on you.

If you know what type of jewelry metal she prefers this instantly completes step one for you. You can then move on to choosing the style of the ring. Once the style is chosen the only remaining factor are the birthstones.

If you like the idea of birthstone bands, you should be aware that there are even stackable bands available. What this means is that each child receives a band dedicated entirely to him/her. The bands are then stacked on top of each other giving a single ring appearance.

You can show your mom that she is still important to you even though you are all grown up.

Next, explore the wide selection of personalized fine jewelry, including Mothers Jewelry and Name Jewelry to celebrate the special person in your life.

An article in today's paper prompted this article...

An article in today’s paper prompted this article…

The present government opposition party, hoping that they’re predicting what will get them elected to power, are promising a crackdown on discipline in schools. They say they will declare war on yobs. They claim children’s behaviour has got progressively worse – over 3.5 million days lost in children’s education in the last 5 years due to exclusions. They’re saying, ‘enough’s enough’.

The promise of tackling bad behaviour being a number one priority when the electorate vote them in, then. Well, they hope the electorate will be on their side – we’ll see…

Of course the other lot are claiming that all is well and the opposition are making a fuss over nothing! Behaviour has improved, is their claim! Not a lot of people will believe that one, Mr Government Man!

Putting aside the rights or wrongs of the political parties’ arguments for the moment – there is a problem that goes beyond giving schools and teachers extra powers to control the appalling behaviour of many children in schools.

It’s a fact that schools and teachers have been given enough power to enable them to deal with children’s problem behaviour. But, they’re not using this power effectively – why?

Well, that’s the problem that has to be addressed before any more powers can benefit teachers and the majority of children who behave well, but whose education is damaged and disrupted by the bad behaviour of others.

So, where do we go to solve this problem?

It may be recognised that children’s behaviour must improve but in the present climate this simply can’t happen. Why’s that? Because the people expected to carry out the changes that are needed haven’t the skill, knowledge or confidence to do what has to be done.

Adults throughout society in general, but schools in particular, have lost their way when it comes to demanding good behaviour from children. They’ve lost their authority and also they’ve been swamped with so much advice that is dangerously inaccurate which has left them confused, without confidence and often terrified to say anything to children that may result in disciplinary action.

The answer is that adults must receive education and training to give them the knowledge and confidence to deal with children’s behaviour and to prevent the level of appalling behaviour they encounter occurring in the first place.

Can this happen? Of course it can, and without difficulty. Adults can easily learn to deal with behaviour problems and can easily become effective and confident.

Adults know deep down what they should be doing to deal with children’s behaviour and armed with the basic skills of behaviour management soon change their own behaviour as required. Confidence soon appears and what they know is sense takes over from the uncertainty of before. They know instinctively what works and that the advice they’ve been offered latterly is basically wrong!

It’s vital that adults are allowed to behave as adults should, disciplining children to encourage them to mature appropriately into people who can manage well in society. Education and behaviour standards can’t improve without adults taking control of child discipline.

And finally – who’ll get elected and will they have the guts to make the changes that are so essential for the well being of society – adults and children?
