Broadway is the oldest north-south avenue that runs through the full length of Manhattan and continues into the Bronx . Originally, this avenue snaked along the length of the Manhattan Island. On arrival of the Dutch, this avenue became a thoroughfare in the city. This avenue was called “The Boulevard” until the end of the 19th century when it was renamed to Broadway. The entire length of Broadway was once a two way traffic street but currently the traffic on Broadway is only southbound.
