Sometimes it is not easy to know how to get rid of procrastination because it is something we often live with. The very nature of procrastination is putting something off and that is very often the reason we live with it. Procrastination is an enemy to anyone, but almost everyone suffers from it at some point in their lives. It makes the sufferer unwilling to do anything and to put off for another day what could be done today. The truth about procrastination though, is that it can be overcome and only the individual sufferer has the power to get rid of procrastination.
If you don’t like doing something then it is easier to get started with it sooner rather than later. Working towards achieving the task that you have put off for so long is one step further than you took yesterday. Procrastinators learn to say that they will do something tomorrow when the truth is tomorrow never comes. If you put off housework then it will eventually become too daunting to deal with.
The sooner procrastination is overcome the better chances of the problem not spiralling out of control. Once of the best ways of dealing with procrastination is making sure you don’t have any distractions. If it means either putting the phone off the hook or ignoring it for a while then all very well because at least it means you are not procrastinating. Also you might want to tell people not to disturb you and not answer the door if someone rings.
We need to prioritise and put the thing we procrastinate about first for a change instead of last. The relief of just doing something we have put off for so long is so amazing that we start to realise it wasn’t't so bad in the first place. As we experience the rewards of doing instead of thinking about we start to change. The thing is we need to allow ourselves time to change. If we don’t start to make the changes ourselves then they will never happen.
We need to start thinking positively and changing the thought patterns we previously clung to. It is amazing how much better you will feel if you give yourself chance. Try to stop beating yourself up and tell yourself that you can do this instead of you can’t do this. The thought pattern of a procrastinator is usually negative rather than positive.
Usually people who procrastination a lot find that eventually it does take over their life so they hardly get anything done. Combatting procrastination takes discipline, but that is very hard when you are beating yourself up about not being able to do something.
