The explosion splits the comet in two, with the smaller part still heading toward Earth. With a devastating impact looming, it is learned that 1 million Americans will be chosen by lottery to go underground into a network of caves built to survive the impact, and the following sequence of disasters.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Here is a romantic comedy set in a beautiful resort in Hawaii. After being dumped by his girlfriend Sarah, he finally decides to go to Hawaii to get over the loss. Unfortunately, when he goes to check in at the resort, the first person he sees is Sarah, and of course her new boyfriend.
Educating Rita: This is an amusing adaptation of Willy Russell’s level play in reference to a youthful working class spouse who desires to better herself, and chooses boozy professor Caine as her mentor. Walters is phenomenal in her film debut performing her role and Caine has one of his best roles as her mentor. Cast includes Michael Caine, Julie Walters, Michael Williams, Maureen Lipman, Jeananne Crowley, and Malcolm Douglas. (110 minutes,’83)
National Treasure; Book Of Secrets: Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage) has just learned that a missing page of John Wilkes Booth’s diary has been found, and it implicates Ben’s grandfather in the murder of Abraham Lincoln. Desperate to prove his grandfathers innocence, he travels the globe following clues that he hope lead to the right conclusion. The trail eventually returns to the U.S. where the uncover one of the world’s most treasured secrets.
Bad Santa: Willie Stokes has an interesting gig. Every year he works as Santa Clause on Christmas Eve. When the shops close, Willie and his partner make a big score by breaking into the safe.
Straight Time: Hoffman knocks heads with greasy parole officer Walsh following his discharge from penitentiary and starts a downward skid. An immersing if not specifically differentiated melodrama that gets a genuine shot in the arm from tremendous acting by the supporting cast. Cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Theresa Russell, Harry Dean Stanton, Gary Busey, Emmet Walsh, and Rita Taggart. (114 minutes,’78)
Cursed: Modern day werewolf on the loose tale is a rare miss for Craven and author Kevin Williamson. Film starts out entertaining however eventually becomes ridiculous as the nubile young sufferers should battle back to become human once more. Already non contemporary movie is set at the old Craig Kilborn chat show, where Ricci is investing in what sounds like nights prepping an interview with Scott Baio. It’s that sort of film, people. Cast includes Christina Ricci, Portia de Rossi, Mya, Shannon Elizabeth, Solar, Daniel Edward Mora, Jesse Eisenberg, and Joshua Jackson. (97 minutes, 2005)
